The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar has won the national election in Akwa Ibom State. The former Vice President secured 214,012 votes to defeat Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who polled 160,620 votes. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, won 132,683 votes. The State Collation Officer, Prof Emmanuel Adigio made the announcement on Monday afternoon. Adigio is Vice Chancellor of Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State. Atiku’s victory is a big win for Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel, Chairman of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, PCC.

Tinubu reacts to defeat in Lagos

Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, has asked Lagos residents to avoid any act of violence in the wake of his loss to Peter Obi in the presidential election held in the state. Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has been declared the winner in Lagos a state which has always been a stronghold of Tinubu. In a statement released hours after Obi was announced as the winner, Tinubu said the outcome of the election should not be a source of provocation. “The fact that the APC narrowly lost Lagos state to another party should not be the reason for violence. As a democrat, you win some, you lose some. We must allow the process to continue unhindered across the country while we maintain peace and decorum,” he said. Tinubu polled 572,606 votes behind Obi who had 582,354 votes. Obi sweeps all 17 LGAs in Enugu

The Labour Party Presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi has been declared winner of the election in all the 17 Local Government Areas of Enugu State. The Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Collation Officer in Enugu State, Prof Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, announced that Obi polled the highest votes in the LGAs followed by Atiku Abubakar, his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, then Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Rabiu Kwankwaso of New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP). Iwe announced that Obi scored 428,640 votes, followed by Atiku who polled 15,749 votes with Tinubu and Kwankwaso garnering 4772 and 1808 respectively. He also disclosed that out of the 2112793 total number of registered voters in the state, only 46,8891 votes were cast out of 482990 accredited voters. All is calm now.  There is no need for violence, which is not part of our culture.  I urge all Lagosians to go about their businesses without any fear of harassment. Law enforcement agencies have been asked to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order in any part of the state.  I have been your Governor for almost four years, promoting harmony and friendship across ethnic and religious lines without any form of discrimination whatsoever.  Let us remain calm. #INEC results: Tinubu wins Oyo state

Bola Tinubu, the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Party (APC), has been declared the winner of the presidential election in Oyo state held on February 25.  According to the state Collation Officer, Prof. Olusola Babatunde, Tinubu polled a total of 449, 884 to defeat his closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party who gathered 182, 977. Peter Obi of Labour Party polled 99,110 votes while Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian Peoples Party polled 4095. Oyo State is under a PDP administration led by Governor Seyi Makinde, who is a member of the G5 governors of the PDP.

INEC declars Atiku winner of Yobe state

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has won the February 25 presidential election in Yobe State. According to the State Returning Officer, Prof Umar Pate, Atiku polled a total of 198,567 votes to beat his closest rival, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled a total of 151, 459 votes while Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) came third with 18,270 votes. Labour Party's Peter Obi secured 2, 406 votes. Yobe is the home state of Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, an APC chieftain who won his Yobe North Senatorial seat but failed to deliver the state for his party’s presidential candidate.

Atiku Abubakar defeats Tinubu in President Muhammadu Buhari’s state, Katsina

Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party Atiku Abubakar has won the presidential election in President Muhammadu Buhari’s state, Katsina. Abubakar polled a total of 489,045 to defeat the All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Tinubu who polled 482,283 votes and other candidates. NNPP's candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, came in at third with 69,386, followed by Labour Party flagbearer Peter Obi who secured 6,376 votes. Atiku was declared winner of the poll by the Returning Officer of the state, Professor Mua’zu Abubakar Gusau, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Gusau, at the INEC Presidential Election Collation Centre in Katsina. The total number of registered voters in the state was 3,516,719 but only about a third of that number, 1,097,663 were accredited to vote.

APC National Chairman Loses Senatorial Seat To SDP

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Adamu has lost his senatorial seat in the Nasarawa western zone to the candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Ahmed Wadada in the National Assembly elections held on Saturday. Adamu could not deliver the APC candidate, Shehu Tukur to replace him at the red chambers. The INEC returning agent for Nasarawa West Senatorial District, Prof Nasiruddeen Baba while declaring the winner at the zonal collation centre in Keffi said the SDP candidate polled 96,488 votes while APC got 47,717 votes, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 46,820 and the Labour Party (LP) 33,228. The APC also lost the Keffi/Kokona/Karu seat to the Social Democratic Party with Gaza Gwefwi retaining the seat. Emefiele Directs 15 Bank Executives To Make N200 Notes Available

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, says he has met with 15 bank executives and directed them to make the old 200 naira notes available from Thursday (today). He made this known after attending a meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and the House of Representatives Special Ad Hoc Committee on Naira Redesign Policy, Cashless Policy, and Currency Swap on Thursday. In a chat with State House Correspondents, Emefiele who described himself as a servant appealed to Nigerians to allow the policy to work because he believes it will bring advancement to the nation’s economy when the challenge of illicit financial flows and insecurity is resolved. US to return $954,000 former Bayelsa gov, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, loot

The United States Government has returned $954,000 stolen by the former Governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, to the state government through the Federal Government. This was disclosed to newsmen by the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard, at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, February 16. She said the official salary of the former governor during his tenure as a public servant from 1999 to his impeachment in 2005 did not match the said amount. EFCC rearraigns influencer Adeherself for alleged N7.9 million internet fraud

Social media influencer and comedienne, Adedamola Adewale alias Adeherself was on Wednesday, February 8 rearraigned by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission for alleged N7.9 million internet fraud. Adeherself and two others at large, were slammed with charges bordering on conspiracy to obtain money by false pretences, attempt to obtain money by false pretences and retention of proceeds of criminal conduct. They were accused of attempting to obtain $6, 000 from one Mr Joseph Rumoro on the pretext that the money was meant for procurement of his passport and visa as well as tax payment. It was alleged that Adeherself retained in her bank account, proceeds of cybercrime to the tune of N7.9 million. ICPC discovers over N250m stashed In Abuja bank

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has discovered N258 million stashed in the vaults of a bank amid the ongoing cash scarcity in the country.  This was disclosed by Azuka Ogugua, spokesperson of the anti-graft agency.  She explained that new naira notes were found stashed in the vault of the Abuja head office of Sterling Bank.  "Operatives of ICPC discovered the sum of Two Hundred and Fifty-Eight Million Naira (N258m) stashed in the vault at the head office of Sterling Bank in Abuja," she said.  According to Oguagua, investigation showed that the money was released by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for distribution.  "The team however found out that only the sum of N5 million each was distributed to their various branches.  "Both the Regional and Service managers were arrested and later granted administrative bail while investigation continues," she said.  The spokesperson added that the Commission has a...

Nigerian student killed in auto crash in Scotland

Tributes have been paid to a Nigerian student who was killed after a two-vehicle crash in Glasgow city centre, Scotland.  Chinenye Vera Okonkwo, 33, was walking on St Vincent Street when she was critically injured at about 19:40 on Thursday, February 2, 2023.  Ms Okonkwo, who was a Public Health MSc undergraduate at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), was pronounced dead at the scene. In a statement, released by the force on Wednesday, February 8, the student's family said: "Chinenye was a wonderful, kind, intelligent young woman with a strong faith in God. She had a passion to succeed and whatever obstacles she faced were overcome "She was very family-oriented and always had time for everyone. Our lives will never be the same without her. Supreme Court temporarily halts banning of old Naira notes

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has temporarily halted the move by the Federal government to ban the use of the old N200, N500 and N1000 notes as legal tenders from February 10. The Supreme court gave the order while delivering judgment in the exparte application filed before it by the Kaduna, Zamfara, and Kogi state governments against plans by the FG to stop the use of the old Naira notes.  The three states had applied for an order of interim injunction restraining the FG through the Central Bank of Nigeria or the commercial banks from suspending or determining or ending on February 10, 2023, the time frame in which the older versions of the N200, N500 and N1000 notes may no longer be legal tenders Moving the application today, counsel to the applicants, Mr A. Gunmen kill UNIZIK lecturer in Anambra

Gunmen have killed a lecturer at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State. Prof. Anthony Eze of the Faculty of Education was shot dead in the early hours of Tuesday, February 7, 2023.  It was gathered that the assailants stormed the deceased's residence in Awka with a Toyota Corolla salon car and shot him at close range. A resident of the area, who preferred anonymity, said the deceased attempted to flee on sighting the assailants who rushed and shot him repeatedly into his chest. “We were here this morning when the man was driving out of his house and suddenly a Toyota Corolla salon car pulled towards the entrance of his house,” the source said.  “When he tried to drive back they followed him and shot him, emptying about four bullets into his chest. President Buhari meets Emefiele, Tambuwal, Bagudu over Naira scarcity

President Buhari today February 7 had a closed door meeting with the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Aminu Tambuwal, the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Atiku Bagudu and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, over the scarcity of the newly redesigned 200, 500 and 1000 naira notes. The meeting which took place in the statehouse Abuja also had attendance the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa; as well as the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Lucky Irabor. It is believed that the meeting was centered on how to resolve the crisis that has trailed the Naira swap policy. The old N200, N500 and N1000 willl cease to be legal tender by February 10. None of the attendees of the meeting spoke with newsmen afterwards.

Man who disguised as a woman and tried to deceive Catholic Church into wedding him dies in accident days before his wedding.

A "woman" known by church members as  Emmanelle Adaolisa died earlier this month in a keke accident in Port Harcourt and her death unravelled the secret about her gender.  Apparently, Emmanelle Adaolisa was a man named Ogoegbunam Emmanuel Nwolisa, with the Facebook username Itz Emmanuel Nwolisa.  In 2021, he stopped posting via his Facebook account and created a new identity.  The trained pharmacist changed his identity and started living as a woman with the Facebook username Emmanelle Adaolisa.  Subsequently, he joined the choir in a Catholic Church in Porth Harcourt and participated actively in the church as a woman.  He — now living as a woman — was said to have concluded his traditional marriage rites with a man and had also attended the marriage course in the Catholic Church ahead of a church wedding.  Just days before the church wedding, Emmanuelle was on her way home after a church program when she died in a keke accident.   She was ta...
